It's time to give an E36 compact the E60 M5 treatment, wouldn't you say?

The E60 is my favourite M5, for the exact reasons disclosed in that video.

No, I don't think it would fit, unless mid-engine conversion

They all hit the rev limiter. They don't know when to shift??

I wouldn't think so, but the 318ti has the same exact engine bay size as an M3. If the E60's V10 fits in the M3's engine bay, it should fit in the 318/323ti's I believe.

The weight distribution would be terrible. Chuck it behind the front seats and boom goes the dynamite.

I have an even better idea. One 5.0 V10 powering the front wheels, one powering the rear wheels. Maybe we do a 6WD car like a Unimog with an extra structural support for an drivetrain behind the car.
Actually an MR one would be far better. Plenty of weight right over the wheels for a little extra traction.

I think you're right. I did some research when there was a cheap BMW V8 out of an E39 locally but the power gains would not have offset the weight of the engine- not to mention it wouldn't fit without serious modification.

Glorious. Just get an E60 and be done with it. Don't gut one to put its heart in a lesser body!

I dream of shoving one, with its transmission in a Z8
